2024 HLC Self Study
On January 7, 2025, the Higher Learning Commission continued UNC’s accreditation, with the next reaffirmation of accreditation in 2034-2035. The HLC’s action culminates a three-year journey of self-reflection and evaluation that involved opportunities for input from the entire campus community.
The HLC’s decision to reaffirm the university’s accreditation was based on the findings of a review team that visited UNC on October 21-22, 2024. Prior to arriving on campus, the team reviewed UNC’s self-study and examined over 600 evidence documents provided by the university. Over 100 UNC faculty, staff, and students contributed to UNC’s self-study preparation and the team’s visit. While at UNC, the team met with over 200 faculty, staff, and students to confirm the information from the self-study report and learn more about the many ways that UNC meets the HLC accreditation criteria.
In their report, the team wrote, “Importantly, it was clear to the team that Rowing, Not Drifting 2030 is truly a guiding document that drives action, and not just words on paper.” They also observed, “UNC has demonstrated that ‘students first’ and a quality education are integral to its operations.”
